Social Media login sometimes referred to as Social Sign-in, is a single sign-in option that uses your existing login information from a social networking website, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Google+, etc. You can use the login to sign-in to a third-party website instead of creating a new account for that particular site.
Now, here is what you have to do to start using Social Sign-in on your WordPress.
Step 1: Installing WordPress Social Login Plugin
- login to your WordPress Admin Panel
- Navigate to Plugins > Add New
- From top right, search for “WordPress Social login”
- Click on “Install Now” as shown in image below
- After installing, click on “Activate Plugin”
Step 2: Configuring WordPress Social login
Navigate to Settings > WP Social login > Networks tab.
You will see a list of social networks from where visitors on your site can register.
Add More Social Networks:
If you want to give more options to the visitors, just navigate to Settings > WP login > Networks tab. On the right side, you’ll have “Add More Providers”. You can add any of them just by a single click.
Step 3: Enabling Social Networks
Configure WordPress Social login With Facebook.
To configure, you have to provide “Application ID” and “Application Secret”.
You can follow the steps in “Where do I get this info?” to know more about your Application ID and Application Secret Key. For example, I am going to illustrate how you can extract your Application ID and Application Secret key for Facebook.
To get your “Application ID” and “Application Secret Key” for Facebook, you need to login to your Facebook account and go to the developer’s section.
Now click on “Add a New App”.
Fill the popup form with your details.
You will see a list of Facebook products, hover on “Facebook login” and click on “Set Up”.
Then choose “Web” from available platforms.
Enter URL of your WordPress site. Click on Save, ignore any further configuration and get into the App Review from the left corner.
Now, we need to make this app publicly available. Make it to Yes.
Then, get to the Dashboard from the top left corner. There you will find Application ID and Application Secret.
Copy and paste them into the Plugin.
Click on “Save Settings” at the end of the page.
Open your website. Click on “login”.
You’ll see something like this.
Click on “Facebook Icon” and login to your website with ease via your Facebook account. By default, WordPress social login Plugin assigns the “subscriber” role to every new login attempt done via the Plugin.
For Gmail and Twitter, click on “Where do I get this info?” and follow onscreen instructions to get “Application ID” and “Application Secret”.
P.S. The steps might be slightly different since social networks change their directions frequently.
You are now done with simplifying your login options for your website. Using social sign-in facility enables you to sign in to your site using already verified credentials. This saves you a lot of time. Adding the ability for users to login via a social site into any membership based site can speed up the registration process.
